Blockbuster NBA Trade in the Works

A big trade involving the Phoenix Suns, the Orlando Magic and my home team, the Washington Wizards, might go down in the next couple of days.

The deal involves two NBA dunk contest champions, a power forward that is a three-point threat, Agent Zero, and one of the worst players in the NBA.

So, the Suns will receive Vince "Air Canada" Carter, backup center Marcin Gortat, small forward Mickael Pietrus and a first-round pick in next year's draft.

The Magic will receive Jason Richardson (from the Suns), former Magic stud Hedo Turkoglu (Suns), Gilbert Arenas (Wizards) and Earl Clark (Suns).

The Wizards will receive Rashard Lewis - known as the worst player in the NBA given his enormous contract.

-----------------------------------------

Here's my take on this whopping deal:

The Magic were the winners in this deal - getting back their point-forward player in Hedo, AND receiving outside shooting in Turk, Arenas AND J-Rich - something that was lacking with only Dwight Howard getting a majority of the baskets, since the Magic had few outside shooters.

The disappointing part of the deal for the Magic is that the players - specifically, J-Rich and Gil, will see their point totals drop from previous years, since both players are not the focal points for the team.

Grade: A+

The Suns basically replace an old shooting guard with another old PLUS injury-prone shooting guard in Vince Carter. They do get Marcin Gortat, a MUCH-NEEDED center for a team that lacks any centers and power forwards.

Grade: B

Lastly, the Wizards are the major LOSERS in this deal. As if the Wizards could get any worse - they now get a player that doesn't play as well as his contract... reminds me of Albert Haynesworth! They could have gotten Lewis and Gortat AND A first-round pick for Arenas - instead, the Wiz struck out with only Lewis - in a position that will be packed - the Wizards hope to get former All-Star Josh Howard back from an ACL injury suffered in February.

Grade: D
