Top NFL Players - Week 7

Every Monday, I shall show the top players at each offensive skill position - fantasy-style, with the percentage owned and started in parenthesis. All data is from espn.com

Let's begin:

Quarterback:
Carson Palmer (19.5%/72.1%)
36/50, 412 yards passing and 3 TD's
28 Fantasy Points

After a terrible, TERRIBLE first half for the Bengals (down 20-3 at halftime), they scored 22 points in the third quarter ALONE - much is due in part of Carson Palmer's monstrous second-half and having the best game of this season so far. He distributed the ball nicely, with TO, Ochocinco and Shipley each having over 80 receiving yards and a touchdown. He faces a Miami team that is average against the pass (16th in the NFL), so he is a spot-starter/bye-week starter next week.

Running Back:
Michael Turner (98.8/100)
23 Carries, 121 rushing yards and 2 TD's; 0 fumbles; 2 catches for 23 yards
26 Fantasy Points

Turner has been off-and-on this season, fantasy-wise, with lackluster performances following dominant performances, such as yesterday afternoon. The whole Falcons' offense was clicking - Turner had 100+ yards and 2 TD's, and their main wideout, Roddy White had 200+ receiving yards AND 2 TD's as well. Unfortunately, you would want to bench Turner AND White for next week - both have byes - but both are MUST-STARTS from here on out.

Running Back:
Darren McFadden (42.1/100)
16 Carries, 165 rushing yards and 3 TD's; 2 Catches for 31 Yards and 1 TD; 0 Fumbles
43 Fantasy Points

McFadden FINALLY had the game of his life against the Broncos and their 19th-ranked run defense. It's the third consecutive week the Broncos' defense has been destroyed via the running game - and this time, McFadden took advantage - having runs of 40, 19, 16 and 57 yards until the 4th quarter - when the game was decided at that point. Despite it being a time-share between Run DMC and Michael Bush, McFadden will still get the bulk of the carries and is worth starting in the future (not next week against the 'Hawks, for they are stingy and stout against the run).

Wide Receiver/Running Back (Flex):
Lee Evans (6.2/65.0)
6 Catches for 105 Yards and 3 TD's
28 Fantasy Points

The quiet but sure-handed veteran Lee Evans, as well as his quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick were stellar offensively against one of the premier teams in the NFL - the Baltimore Ravens. The Bills, offensively, were clicking on all cylinders - Evans had 100+ yards and 3 TD's and Steve Johnson had 150+ yards and 1 TD. This was a big reason why they came thisclose to defeating the Ravens - who had their third straight AWFUL game defensively against the pass. The Bills play the Chiefs next week, so, like Palmer, both Evans and Fitzpatrick are bye-week starters, at best.

Wide Receiver:
Roddy White (100/100)
11 Catches for 201 receiving yards and 2 TD's; 1 two-pt. Conversion; 1 Fumble
32 Fantasy Points

Everyone knew White will have a good game - started in every league - but he had an EXCELLENT game, hauling in 10+ catches for 200+ receiving yards. He has become the #1 wide receiver in ALL of fantasy football. Like Turner, White has quietly had a great season, averaging 14.6 fantasy points per game (about a TD and 90 receiving yards per game). Even though he has a bye next week, I do not see why you would bench him after Halloween weekend.

Wide Receiver:
Kenny Britt (23.8/66.2)
7 Catches for 225 receiving yards and 3 TD's
40 Fantasy Points

The Tennessee Titans have FINALLY found their #1 wide receiver and a deep-threat wide receiver they have been lacking for a long time! Despite being benched for the entire first quarter, he, like Arian Foster against the Raiders, had a huge game and is worth owning IN ALL LEAGUES. No matter who his quarterback is - the young Vince Young or old Kerry Collins - Britt will still produce fantasy points, touchdowns and receiving yards. He has a touchdown in 5 STRAIGHT games, so I do not see why you would NOT start him - even against the stingy pass-defense of the San Diego Chargers next week.

Tight End
Todd Heap (19.8/31.0)
3 Catches for 59 yards and 2 TD's
17 Fantasy Points

It was a quiet week 8 for the NFL's tight ends - especially after uber-stud Antonio Gates only had 1 touchdown and 50 receiving yards. Heap was Flacco's go-to-receiver in yesterday's high-scoring affair. He is only worth owning in deeper leagues and a spot-start when, say, one of your premier TE's are injured or on a bye-week (such as yesterday, if you started him in place of Gates or Chris Cooley)

Kicker
Olindo Mare (1.7/3.0)
5 for 5 on Field Goals; 1 for 1 on Extra-Points
18 Fantasy Points

This week was a great week for NFL kickers fantasy-wise, since 12 kickers had 11 fantasy-points or more during yesterday's action. None was used as much as the ex-Dolphin and current Seattle Seahawk Olindo Mare. The 'Hawks scored only 1 touchdown, even though they were in Cardinals' territory six times yesterday afternoon. I still would not grab him off the waiver-wire. There are still better options, such as the 'Fins kicker, Dan Carpenter, who is available in a WHOPPING 88.6% of all leagues.

Defense/Special Teams
Cleveland Browns (3.3/4.3)
4 Ints for 110 yards and 2 TD's; 3 Sacks; and a 62-yard punt return and a 68-yard run by the punter
24 Fantasy Points

While last week was disappointing on the defense and special teams-front, this week was a HUGE week regarding this area for the Browns, Raiders (again) and my team, the Redskins. The Browns' D/ST was their focal point in their victory against the defensing champions, the New Orleans Saints. The Saints' players don't know what hit them in yesterday's shocker in the Superdome. Linebacker Scott "I'm Sizzling" Fujita had a big role for the Browns - mainly because he was facing his former team for the first time. But the biggest play of all was a 60+ run BY THE PUNTER!

I cannot end this post without talking about the Redskins, who had a spectacular game defensively against the Bears (23 fantasy points). They were led by Hall and his 4 interceptions - including one 92 yards to the house, and "Big" Albert Haynesworth - who had 2 great plays: one, in the first quarter, where he shoved the center into quarterback Jay Cutler, resulting in a sack; and two, on the goal-line, pulling a Superman move and sacking Cutler, resulting in a fumble and turnover.

TOTAL Fantasy Points: 256 (A season-high!)
