NBA Dunk Contest Participants Revealed!

The NBA Dunk Contest - a tradition held during every NBA All-Star weekend - has revealed it's participants. According to Los Angeles Times writer Broderick Turner, these are the four that will be coming to LA next month: 6-foot-10-inch Blake Griffin PF for LA Clippers), 6-1 Brandon Jennings (PG, now injured, for Milwaukee Bucks), 6-10 Serge Ibaka (PF for Oklahoma City Thunder) and 7-0 JaVale McGee (C for the Wash Wizards).

Find out more about my analysis and videos of the participants after the jump:

The EASY favorite to win the thing is Blake Griffin. He has wowed every LA Clipper and NBA fan with his amazing dunks - this after knee surgery last year that prohibited him from playing last year.

The surprise is what JaVale McGee can do. He can either to really well:

Or God-awful:

But, I disagree with the other two picks. Why pick a small player who does NOT dunk often (Jennings) and might not play next month due to his current broken foot injury? There are loads of other small player-dunkers, such as Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook and John Wall, who are any-day better than Jennings in the dunk contest and would easily bring in more viewers.

And, Serge Ibaka ("I Block Ya")? The Thunder power forward is known more for his blocking capability than his dunking skills. Why not replace him with Rudy Gay, who couldn't participate in the '09 Contest due to a previous injury? Gay has done really well as the star player for the young Grizzlies' franchise.

Tune in to the NBA Dunk Contest 2011 in LA on Saturday, February 19 on TNT.
